REO Rafting & Yoga Resort is an amazing place to live and work in the summer. It is located right on the Nahatlatch River in a very beautiful and private setting. The area is known as the Fraser Canyon, just 2.5 hours from Vancouver in southwestern British Columbia. We are open May to September, with the busiest months being July and August. Sous Chef / Second Cook

Location: REO Rafting Resort, Nahatlatch Valley
Seasonal: May 14 - Sept 20, 2021 (start and end dates negotiable)
Compensation: $ 18.50-20.00 per hour, based on experience (includes 4% vacation pay)
Scheduled Hours: 40 hours per week

 

Skill Requirements

  1. 2+ years of Sous Chef experience in fast-paced kitchen or catering
  2. Capable of preparing & delivering banquet-style and plated meal service
  3. Skilled in executing multiple cuisines
  4. Creating healthy, well-balanced menus with plant-based, fish, chicken, and meat options
  5. Preparing desserts and fresh baked goods
  6. Experience catering food on-time and on-budget

Major Responsibilities

  1. Ensure quality meals are prepared, well-presented and served on time
  2. Knowledge of plant-based menus, experience with fish, poultry and meat options
  3. Provide for special dietary restrictions and allergies, including gluten-free options
  4. Plan & prepare meals for special events and retreats
  5. Maintain safe storage of all foods; ensure fresh quality and minimal waste
  6. Engage and communicate with guests when required
  7. Supervise assistant cooks, kitchen assistants, dishwashers, servers and kitchen volunteers
  8. Ensure that safe working conditions are maintained, providing kitchen safety orientations
  9. Ensure high level of sanitation, prepare for health inspections, and uphold BC health code & Food Safe regulations
  10. Lead opening & setup of kitchen in mid-May and close down in mid-September (*if Primary Cook)
  11. Provide scheduling manager with weekly schedule needs for all kitchen staff  (*if Primary Cook)

  5. Able to prepare a wide range of high quality customized meals, entrees, salads, and desserts with the help of the Head Cook

Senior Trip Leader

  2. Min 4 years raft guiding & trip leading experience on technical Class 3-5 rivers (provide list of rivers/trips)
  3. Rescue 3 Whitewater Rescue Technician certification or Class 4-5 safety kayak experience
  4. Wilderness First Aid OR comparable training (min 40 hours)
  5. Speak and write fluently in English
  6. A positive attitude, friendly and professional

  4. Timely, professional, and courteous communications with guests
  5. Preparing the yoga shala and equipment before each class, including cleaning and sweeping.

  8. Attending required meetings, training sessions, and product familiarization sessions

  3. Vehicle and machine maintenance & repairs an asset

  6. Servicing vehicles and equipment such as generators, chainsaws, laundry machines (example oil change, replace parts/filters)
  7. Maintaining resort amenities hot tub, showers, toilets, gates, roads
  8. Professional & courteous communication with guests
  9. Ensure that safe working conditions are maintained
  10. Attending required meetings, training sessions, and product familiarization sessions
  11. Abiding by the COVID-19 guidelines, including sanitizing work areas

Volunteer Opportunities

Are you looking for an amazing summer experience that includes room and board and great adventures? Our popular volunteer program is ideal for adults of all ages who enjoy the great outdoors, love adventure, and are willing to meet the needs of our guests.

 

How Volunteering Works

Volunteers can choose our Weekend Warrior option or our popular Volunteer Week. Our Volunteer Week participants come from all over the world and some stay for several months because they love it!

Volunteers live, work and play at the REO resort. We provide all meals, beverages, shared cabin tent lodging and a range of adventure activities. In exchange, volunteers offer 25 hours per week.


Possible Jobs Volunteers May Do

Volunteers may help prepare & serve meals, assist with resort cleaning & tidiness, housekeeping, trip logistics, landscaping & buildings maintenance, construction, and guest services. Please let us know your skills, interests and experience when you apply.


Activities

Volunteers are able to go rafting, join in other activities (lake paddling, kayaking, hiking) and enjoy the facilities hot tub, campfires, volleyball & nature trail.
